This program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Pediatric Advanced Life Support training for their clinical duties. It consists of Precourse Work and Precourse Self-Assessment that is completed online. This is followed by a skills assessment that is completed in the classroom under direct instructor supervision. A skills assessment with an AHA Instructor is required to earn a valid AHA PALS Provider eCard that is valid for two years.

Topics covered in this course are:

  • High-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Differentiation between patients who do require and do not require immediate interventions
  • Performance as a high-performance team member
  • Differentiation between respiratory distress and respiratory failure
  • Management of respiratory distress and respiratory failure
  • Differentiation between compensated and hypotensive (decompensated) shock
  • Differentiation between types of shock
  • Early interventions for the treatment of shock
  • Bradycardic and tachycardic rhythms
  • Clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
  • Cardiac arrest and post-cardiac arrest management

The PALS Precourse Self-Assessment is an online tool that evaluates a student’s knowledge before the course to evaluate their proficiency and determine the need for additional review and practice. The student must complete the Precourse Self-Assessment and achieve a score of at least 84% before taking the PALS Course. The student must print their successful completion certificate and bring it with them to class. The PALS Precourse Work involves a student reviewing course content through online videos before entering the classroom. The video lessons cover multiple medical subjects and each lesson includes questions to engage the student. This prework allows more classroom time for hands-on skills training and leads to the student being better prepared to participate as soon as they enter the classroom.

Both required certificates will be collected at the door.  Class size is limited and available on a first come basis.
